Cracked or Broken Base
The acrylic base of your denture can crack from dropping it, biting on hard foods, or simply from age and wear. A cracked denture should not be worn as it can injure your gums.
Loose or Missing Tooth on Denture
Individual teeth on a denture can come loose or fall out. This is a common repair that can usually be done quickly without needing a completely new denture.
Broken Clasp on Partial
The metal or flexible clasps that hold a partial denture in place can bend or break. A broken clasp means your partial won’t stay in place properly and needs professional repair.
Poor Fit or Sore Spots
Over time, your jawbone changes shape (especially after extractions), causing dentures to fit poorly. Ill-fitting dentures cause sore spots, difficulty eating, and can lead to infections.
When a Denture Can’t Be Repaired
In some cases, a denture may be beyond repair:
- Multiple breaks or cracks in the base
- The denture has been repaired several times before
- The fit has changed significantly due to bone loss
- The denture is very old and worn
