Anantuni Family Dental in Chandler, Arizona, is excited to introduce our newest doctor on staff, Dr. Rahul Avadhani! He recently made the move to sunny Arizona from Springfield, Illinois where he was a general dentist with Optim Dental LLC. 

If Dr. Avadhani looks familiar, that may be because he was a dental assistant to Dr. Anantuni in 2013-2014! While he moved on to gain more experience at other practices, he eventually returned to Anantuni Family Dental because in his words, “I know how Dr. Anantuni works and she is a wonderful dentist. Of course, I was interested when I heard she was looking to bring an associate on board.” 

Dr. Avadhani acquired his first dental degree from NTR University of Health Sciences, India in 2010 during which he developed an interest in public health. He then pursued a master’s degree in public health with a focus on Health Services Management. Dr. Avadhani attended the international dentist program at SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in Buffalo, NY. 

As a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Avadhani is constantly educating himself in the latest treatment modalities to provide the best and most appropriate dental care possible. Extremely passionate about his work, he has traveled to remote areas in the USA to provide dental treatment to individuals at no cost. He also volunteers with non-profit organizations when he has free time.

We sat down with Dr. Avadhani to get to know him a little better and to learn more about his background and interests. Here are some interesting things to know about our newest doctor on staff:

Q: How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a dentist?

A: When I was in high school I had the chance to meet alumni who had then just finished dental school and were moving on to specialty programs. They spoke about how dentistry is an art and a science. It was very inspiring to me as a teenager. 

Q: What inspired you to be a dentist?

A: Many events inspired me to be a dentist. I used to come across family members with little to no health education with regards to oral care. Some of them lost teeth at an early age and had difficulty eating and chewing food. I had the opportunity to tag along with them to their dental appointments and learned how a dentist can make an impact on improving the quality of life in individuals.  

Q: Who do you look up to in your field and why?

A: There are so many amazing dentists out there in every discipline. Thanks to social media, I follow some amazing dental colleagues and keep up with the inspiring work they do.

Q: Which dental services do you like to provide the most?

A: I’m a general practitioner. But I like doing root canals and restorative dentistry.

Q: What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: I like to spend time with my better half, play cricket with friends, and cook. And sleep. 

Q: Where is your favorite place to travel?

A: I have not had a chance to travel a lot, but I like to travel within the USA. There so many cool places to see. I really liked the state of Maine and the upper peninsula of Michigan. 

Q: What advice do you have for students considering dentistry as a career?

A: It is a very tough and competitive environment, but it also extremely rewarding. That smile and heartfelt thanks from a patient after you have helped relieve their pain will make all the hard work worthwhile.
